How to use the i-rock tool

Ready for another portable, affordable, cordless, safe and convenient tool? Its the i-rock tool by Imaginisce.

This tool is battery operated and runs on 3 AA batteries. It heats up at the press of a safety switch button to set gems, rhinestones and studs on various items like your scrapbook pages, clothes, purses, furniture, wood, shoes, hat, jeans and hairbow to create a dazzling and blingy effect.

It costs around $20 (depending on where you buy it from) and the accessories are sold separately.

If you dont want to purchase a tool there is another option for you. Its the Glossy accents which costs around $7.50. Its a very strong adhesive and dries very quickly and you just need a drop to set in your gems, rhinestones and pearls. You can also use it on top of chipboards and pictures to add a 3-dimensional effect and also to magnify and glossify your projects.

How to use the Prima Scrapbook Distressing Tool

I found an interesting scrapbooking tool called the distressing tool which has the features to do 5 jobs at one go.  It has an ergonomic handle and has a rub on tip, fine and rough surface which acts like a sandpaper, a metal distressing brush, an edge scraper and a bone folder. It costs about $15 and can be used on cardstock, paper, textiles, plastic and wood. Take a look at the video and you will understand what I mean.

Cutting Mat and Craft Knife

A cutting mat is an essential tool for scrapbooking. It is a self-healing, PVC surface,non-slip bottom with one inch grid pattern for accuracy cutting.

Self healing? Yes! No matter how many times you cut your papers with the craft knife the mat looks good as new with some scratch lines. It varies in colour, design and features and the prices can range from $20 onwards. The mat that I have is a Fiskars two sided craft mat with the front side self healing and the reverse side as a durable working surface which is basically good enough for scrapbooking. There is also a magnetic cutting mat with a magnetic ruler made by WeRMemory Keepers which makes it easy to get a precise measuring.

You need a craft knife to work on the cutting mat. It is a single sharp bladed knife ideal for paper crafts and plastic. You cant sharpen the blade instead you have to replace the blade. You usually get an extra blade when you purchase one. Please be extra caution with the blades and also not to expose it to substances that will corrode the blade.

How to use the Circle Cutter

I bought a circle cutter from Paper Artsy to create some dimension for my cards and scrapbook pages. It was fun using it to cut out perfect circles anytime from all sorts of papers. You can even cut out circles from your favourite photos to suit your layout.

Please use a self healing cutting mat or glass mat when you cut out the circles and please be careful when you take the blade in and out.

How to use the Bigshot?

I was browsing through the lincraft catalogue and saw the Sizzix Bigshot machine selling for $99 which is the cheapest compared to any other online selling sites. As my birthday happens to be in October when I got the catalogue I told my husband what I wanted for my birthday present and I got it. Yippee!

Do you know what is a Bigshot machine? It works the same way as the Cuttlebug. So what is a Cuttlebug? Both these machines are a die cutting and embossing machine only different shape and size.

Bigshot

I will put up a link to a you tube video showing how to use the Bigshot machine:-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbOcziIb-sk

In order to use this machine you need embossing folders and die cuts to run through the machine by rolling the handle with your hand (no electricity involved) to create a raised pattern on your cardstock or paper. The embossing folders comes in various designs for eg. polka dots, swirls, birds, snowflakes etc.

After running through the machine with this embossing folders you can make beautiful cards which looks like this made by scrappers online:-

All about Valentine's Day

English: self made
Image via Wikipedia
Valentine's Day is a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers and sending greeting cards. Since the 19th century handwritten valentines has given way to factory produced greeting cards and has become more commercialised.

In the second half of the 20th century, the practice of exchanging cards was extended to gifts which includes roses and chocolates packed in a red satin, heart-shaped box andteddy bears and the diamond industry began to promote Valentine's Day as an occasion for giving jewelry.

The rise of internet popularity created new traditions with millions of people using digital means of creating and sending Valentine's Day greeting messages such as e-cards, love coupons or printable greeting cards. Do you know that an estimated 15 million e-valentines were sent in 2010 and an estimated 1 billion valentines are mailed every year?
