A cutting mat is an essential tool for scrapbooking. It is a self-healing, PVC surface,non-slip bottom with one inch grid pattern for accuracy cutting.
Self healing? Yes! No matter how many times you cut your papers with the craft knife the mat looks good as new with some scratch lines. It varies in colour, design and features and the prices can range from $20 onwards.The mat that I have is a Fiskars two sided craft mat with the front side self healing and the reverse side as a durable working surface which is basically good enough for scrapbooking. There is also a magnetic cutting mat with a magnetic ruler made by WeRMemory Keepers which makes it easy to get a precise measuring.
You need a craft knife to work on the cutting mat. It is a single sharp bladed knife ideal for paper crafts and plastic. You cant sharpen the blade instead you have to replace the blade. You usually get an extra blade when you purchase one. Please be extra caution with the blades and also not to expose it to substances that will corrode the blade.
